Is Bing Chat better than GPT-4 in web browsing?
In my recent article, I demonstrated that Bing Chat can effectively utilize web browsing to deliver answers based on the most recent data.
I purchased the ChatGPT Plus membership to test out the newest features, including the web browsing option. In this article, I will show you a few examples from ChatGPT-4 and compare them with Bing Chat.

Prompt 1: Who’s Twitter CEO?
Note: I entered the prompt on 15.05.2023.
ChatGPT-4:
Bing Chat:
Comment: Both tools returned the correct answer which required data from 11 May 2023.
Searching for a book
Prompt 2: I’m a Recruiter expert and I am looking for the best book about recruiting. The language: English. The most important for me is the average of reviews. It must be a minimum of 10 reviews. I want to buy the book on Amazon. I want to see the prices.
ChatGPT-4:
Comment: From ChatGPT-4 I received books that meet my criteria. The data about reviews and prices stem from Amazon’s site and are up-to-date. The links as well direct you to the concrete books on Amazon.com which is very comfortable.
Bing Chat:
Comment: Bing Chat gave me 2 books. It wrote only about the price of “Full stack Recruiter”. I didn’t receive information about ratings of reviews. The attached links lead to the concrete books on Amazon.com. Below the answer came up ads - one of them is “Full stack Recruiter” in my currency which might be helpful, if I decide to buy the book. ChatGPT-4 outperformed Bing Chat in the task.
Can you organize a trip with the AI tools?
Prompt 3: I’m an expert in organizing trips. I got a task to prepare an offer about traveling from Rome to Marseille in the next week. The person is looking for one-way travel by airplane. Present the offer with prices, duration, and time of arrival and departure.

ChatGPT-4:

Comment: Even though I tried a few times at different hours and days to receive an answer without “some technical difficulties”, ChatGPT-4 failed.
Firstly, I did not get an offer within the next week as I asked. Secondly, the details in the answer are outdated - the price is totally different as you can see in the screenshot. ChatGPT-4 totally screwed up the task.
Bing Chat:
Proof:
Comment: The most important difference, I receive an offer within the next week. I got information about the exact location of departure (in Rome are 2 airports) which is critical. There is a discrepancy in prices, however, it is marginal ($1). In this example, Bing Chat performed far better than ChatGPT-4.
What about looking for buying an apartment?
Prompt 4: I’m a person who wants to buy an apartment in Madrid. Maximum 1 km to the city center. 50 square meters. 2 rooms and a balcony. My budget is 250 000 Euros.
ChatGPT-4:
Comment: I received an offer which is above my budget and does not meet my expectations.
Bing Chat:
Comment: The first link leads to Booking.com, and the second does not provide apartments which meet my criteria. Both tools completely failed in the task.
Note: I tested out a few other locations using prompt 4. In several attempts, ChatGPT-4 performed better, in other Bing Chat. In the example above, I wanted to present a location which returned similar responses to not favor one of the tools.
Summary
In the first prompt regarding the current Twitter CEO, both tools provided the correct answer.
The 2nd prompt, searching for the best recruiting book on Amazon. ChatGPT-4 outperformed Bing Chat by providing more accurate book suggestions with actual data.
The 3rd prompt involved organizing a trip from Rome to Marseille. Bing Chat excelled with accurate and timely information. ChatGPT-4 delivered an offer on the wrong date and with false information about prices.
In the 4th prompt about apartment finding in Madrid, both tools completely failed in the task. None of the suggestions matched the specified criteria.
In conclusion, Bing Chat and ChatGPT-4 showed similar proficiency in web browsing. Either excel in one task and perform almost equally in the rest 2 situations.
Notably, to access web browsing in ChatGPT-4 you have to become a ChatGPT Plus member. It costs $20 per month. Bing Chat offers its services for free, which adds the advantage of lower costs.
