Web browsing using GPT-4 technology for free
Since 15.05.2023 ChatGPT Plus users have had access to new features: plugins and web browsing as OpenAI announced in their last release note (link).
To become a member of ChatGPT Plus you have to purchase a subscription which costs $20 per month. However, you can use a tool for free that was developed by OpenAI and Microsoft.
Bing Chat
Bing Chat is an AI chatbot that leverages Microsoft’s search engine, Bing with the newest version of ChatGPT (currently, there is ChatGPT-4). All you need is a Microsoft account.
In this article I will show you a few examples that web browsing in Bing Chat does work. Plus, a template for writing prompts to get best and true results.
There are 3 available styles to use (balanced, creative and precise). Remember, in this case choose the style “precise” which is the most reliable. The other styles sometimes bring false results.
What works best for me is pretending that I’m an expert in a particular field and I was requested to do something. I recommend not asking for pretending a role by Bing Chat because sometimes it responds in that manner “I’m sorry, but I am not … I am Bing, search engine”. Specify the timeframe, using words such as ‘next’ or ‘currently’ or the exact date, e.g. “end of April 2023”.
Template:
I am an [write the particular field, e.g. economics, history etc.] expert who was requested to [describe what you want to find out and specify the timeframe]
Below, a few prompts which demanded recent data.
Prompt 1: I’m an expert in economics who was requested to present the overall inflation in the USA at the end of April 2023
Answer:
Comment: I checked the indicated sources. The answer is true.
Prompt 2: I’m a football expert and I was requested to compare how many goals in La Liga have currently Robert Lewandowski and Karim Benzema
Answer:
Comment: I put the prompt on 12.05.2023, so the answer is true.
Prompt 3: I’m a football expert who was requested to say about the next matches in champions league. When and who will be playing?
Answer:
Comment: I asked the question on 14.05.2023, so the answer is true.
Summary
Bing Chat is able to search for most recent data. I do not want to suggest that you should use only the tool, although I encourage you to conduct tests and choose Bing Chat or paid version of ChatGPT. The choice depends on your budget, needs or how much you use one of the tools.
